Hi Ed,
WD40 on the hinges is ok for a quick fix. But the WD40 will disappear quite soon. Therefore I suggest to take something longer lasting for the future. I always use HHS2000, by Würth / Sebasto. Link: Würth HHS2000.
Although frequently lubrificating my roof hinges, I sometimes, eventually, experience some squeaking noise als well. I can not reproduce it and therefore have not been able yet to exactly track where it comes from. I think it is a built-in feature
