power steering 'stop leak' products in the hood hydraulic system?
#1
HHfriends! I have a leak in my hood hydraulic cylinders/pistons. Before I invest in used or reconditioned cylinders/pistons, has anyone tried power steering leak-stop products on the hood hydraulic system?

Hi Chris,
I indeed used a liquid called "Lecwec" to stop the loss of hydraulic fluid in my hood system.
I did this in 2017 and still the system ist tight.

Exciting news! Lots of people will disagree, but I think it’s worth a go. I can always send my cylinders / rams away to be refurbished if it all goes wrong. Thanks for the tip!

Does anyone happen to know the volume / capacity of the hood hydraulic system? I want to get the concentration of stop-leak solution correct! Thank you!

Good evening everyone. This evening I tried to top up the hydraulic reservoir with Lucas Oil Hydraulic Oil Booster Stop Leak. The Lucas additive is very thick and did would not easily feed through the filler hole. I managed to get about 20ml in but I’d need to get more like 75ml in to reach the desired 10% ratio with the hydraulic fluid in the system.

Any tips / ideas? Is there a breather bolt to undo as well as the filler bolt?

I’m thinking that I’ll wait for the level to drop again then pre-dilute the Lucas additive with the correct hydraulic fluid.

Hi Chris,

Back in the day when we filled my hood system with Lecwec, we literally used a syringe.
As a matter of fact Lecwec ist very liquid which made it quiet easy to apply.
